Why dry clean a saree
The reason it matters.
Silk sheen: The sheen of a silk saree comes from the protein surface of the silk fibre. Water causes this surface to denature slightly — permanently dulling the lustre. Dry cleaning uses no water. The sheen is preserved.
Zari protection: The metallic thread in Banarasi, Kanjivaram and embroidered sarees tarnishes on contact with water. Even a small splash causes immediate and irreversible tarnishing of pure zari. Dry cleaning never exposes the zari to moisture.
Storage preparation: A saree worn at Puja, a wedding, or even twice casually, carries sweat and body oil residue. Stored without cleaning, this residue causes permanent yellowing and attracts insects. Dry cleaning before storage is one of the most important things you can do for your saree collection.
